The Montevideo Baseball Team will be on the road Saturday at Pipestone for a doubleheader at 12:00.

The Baseball Team is coming off a 10 to 8 conference win over Minnewaska.  Tyler Grey went the distance on the mound

going 7 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, with 4 strikeouts.  Cameron Vien continued his hot hitting, going 3 for 4, with a

home run and 3 RBI.  Eldon Evans, Todd Bergeson, and Ryan Tostenson had 2 hits each.  Josh Anderson, Mitch

Christensen, and Grant Kaihoi also had hits for Montevideo.

The Montevideo Boys Golf Team will be on the road Monday at Ortonville for Sub-section at 10 AM.  

The Boys Golf Team is coming off a 6th place finish as a team at the WCS Meet at Benson.  Noah Mann led the Thunder

Hawks with a 42, Thomas Ward and Aric Olson each shot 44's, and Tyler Johnson and Phillip Ward each shot 50's.

Monte ends the conference season in 4th place as a team.  Monte had 2 players named All-Conference, Thomas Ward,

and Noah Mann were honored.

The Tennis Team is coming off a 5 to 2 loss to MACCRAY.  Charlie Landmark had a singles win for the Thunder

Hawks.  Eric Johnson and Rik Danielson picked up a doubles win.

The Girls Golf Team is coming off a 6th place finish as a team at the WCS Meet at ACGC.  Kendyl Anderson led Monte

with a 56, Laura Moseng shot a 59, Britt Kubista and Nicole Strei each shot 60's, Kristine Molde shot a 64, Haley Kubista

shot a 66, and Kara Balken shot a 69.  Montevideo finished the conference season in 5th place as a team.

2 innings, giving up 2 hits, 0 runs, with 1 strikeout.  Calie Roggatz pitched the final 4 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 earned

runs, with 1 strikeout.  Carrie Johnson, Kayla Berget, and Jordan Kline had hits for the Thunder Hawks.

from Nick Spaeth in the 110 hurdles, the 300  hurdles, and the high jump, and Monte's 4 X 100 relay was 1st with Lines,

Ackerman, Black, and Neyens.

The Montevideo Boys Basketball Team held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards for All

Conference were Todd Bergeson, Tramel Barnes, Nolan Jaspersen , and Tyler Grey.  All Conference Honorable

Mention was given to Eric Brandon.  Most Improved Award was given to Cameron Vien, Best Defense Award was

given to Tramel Barnes, Team Player Award was given to Cameron Vien, The Hustle Award goes to Brock Ackerman,

The Free Throw Award goes to Tyler Grey, and Tyler Grey was also named Academic All State, The Coaches Award

goes to Tyler Ray, and The Team MVP goes to Tramel Barnes. 

The Montevideo Boys Basketball Team ended their great season competing at the State Tournament with a 1st round

loss to Maple River by a score of 64 to 53.  With 4:12 to go in the game Montevideo trailed by just 6 points but the

Thunder Hawks just couldn't get any closer.  Tyler Grey led Monte with 17 points, Nolan Jaspersen had a double double,

11 points and 16 rebounds, Tramel Barnes had 10 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals, Todd Bergeson had 7, Jeff Jerve scored

6, and Tyler Ray had 2.  Montevideo ends their season with a 27 and 5 record, a West Central Conference South

Championship for the 3rd year in a row, a Section 3AA Championship, and the first trip to the State Tournament for

Montevideo since 1976.

The Montevideo Wrestling Team held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards were

Zach Weckwerth for the Most Falls with 20, and the Most Takedowns with 40, Tim Macziewski won the

award for the Hardest Worker, Paul Young won the JV Coaches Award, Colton Anderson won the Varsity

Coaches Award, Sam Aalfs was the Most Valuable Wrestler, and All Conference Wrestlers were Sam Aalfs

and Zach Weckwerth.  The Montevideo Wrestling Team was also named Academic All-State.

The Montevideo Wrestling Team had Sam Aalfs competing at the State Tournament at the Xcel Energy

Center in St. Paul.  Sam Aalfs lost a hard fought match to Ben Horn from Saint Michael-Albertville in

the first round of the state tournament and was eliminated.  The final score of the match was 3 to 1. 

Section results:

Sam Aalfs finished 2nd at 140 at the Section Tournament.  Zach Weckwerth just missed a trip to State with

a 3rd place finish at Sections at 125.  Josh Anderson at 130 and Garret Norby at 160 were both 4th, Tim

Macziewski was 5th at 112, and Isaac Sulflow was 6th at 145.

The Montevideo Boys Swim Team held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards

were, Most Improved Brandon Jordahl and Calvin Pender, Most Dedicated goes to Owen Hein and David

Nedrud, Rookie of the Year goes to Adam Peters, and the Coaches Award goes to David Nedrud.

Next years Captains will be Dakota Frazier, Dan Schultz, and Bryton Emery.   

The Montevideo Boys Swim Team had their 200 free relay, and David Nedrud in the 100 butterfly and

the 50 free, competing at the State Swim Meet.  Montevideo finished 22nd as a team at State.  David Nedrud

finished 4th in the 100 Butterfly, and 9th in the 50 free.  In the 200 Free relay Monte finished 13th with

Evenson, Hein, Emery, and Nedrud.

The Montevideo Girls Basketball Team held their end of the season awards banquet and earning All

Conference Honors were Hannah Wenaas and Beka Schwendemann.  All Conference Honorable Mention

went to Taylor Skoglund.  The Free Throw Award and the Hardest Worker awards were given to Carrie

Johnson.  Karie Blommel won the award for Best Defense.  The Team MVP was given to Beka

Schwendemann. 

The Montevideo Girls Basketball Team ended their season with a loss in the second round of the Section

3AA Tournament to Minnesota Valley Lutheran by a score of 63 to 54.  Minnesota Valley Lutheran made a

basket to take a 1 point lead with around 1:30 to go and then went on to make their free throws down the

stretch.  Taylor Skoglund led the Thunder Hawks with a double double, 24 points and 13 rebounds, Beka

Schwendemann had 10 points, Hannah Wenaas had 9, Brooke Tastad with 5, Carrie Johnson with 4, Ashley

Roder and Amanda Boike each scored 1.  Montevideo ends their season with a 13 and 11 record.

The Montevideo Gold Dusters held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards were

Abigail Haugen for Rookie of the Year, Jamie Enevoldsen for Most Improved, Kristi Knutson for Best

Technique, Emily Rasmussen for Best Attitude, Ashley Teichert won the Coaches Award, Emily Blauert

Performance Award, Courtney Knutson Above & Beyond, and the Gold Dust Award goes to Katie Burns.

Next years captains are Amanda Bertrand, Jaimee Enevoldsen, LaVonna Hammann, Ashley Lenning, Kristi

Knutson, Sara Malecek, Lea Rodeberg, and Whitney Sandven.

The Montevideo Gold Dusters ended their season competing at the Section 3A Dance Team Competition.

In High Kick a team must finish in the top two to advance to State, 1st place was YME and 2nd place was

LQPV.  In Jazz Funk a team must finish in the top three to advance to State, 1st place was YME, 2nd Place

was BOLD, and 3rd place was TMB.   

The Gold Dusters High Kick Team had 5 girls earn All-Conference honors, Leah Rodeberg, Courtney Knutson,

Sarah Tilden, Ashley Lenning, and Kristi Knutson.  The Jazz Funk Team had 4 girls named All-Conference,

Emily Blauert, Ashley Teichert, Manda Bertrand, and Katie Burns.

The Montevideo Football Team held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards as

100 point Defensive Players were Tyler Blomme, Todd Bergeson, Jeff Jerve, Tyler Johnson, Cam Vien,

Shane Black, and Eric Brandon.  Most Improved Players were Thomas Ward and Eric Brandon.  Most

Valuable Lineman was Jeff Jerve.  Moat Valuable Back was Tramel Barnes.  The Hawk Pride award goes

to Nolan Jaspersen and Cam Vien.  All Conference Awards go to Tyler Blomme, Tyler Grey, Nolan

Jaspersen, Jeff Jerve, Todd Bergeson, and Brock Ackerman.  All Conference Honorable Mention goes to

Tramel Barnes, Shane Black, and Eric Brandon.  Jeff Jerve was named the WCC South Most Valuable

Lineman.  The Team MVP goes to Tyler Grey and Tyler Blomme.  Next Years Captains are Jeff Jerve

and Shane Black.  Tyler Grey was also named to the Minnesota State High School Football Coaches

Association Academic All-State Team.  Montevideo as a team was named in the Silver Division which

means they are in the top 9 to 18 teams in the state for academics. 

The Montevideo Football Team ended their season with a hard fought loss to Dassel Cokato 21 to 7.

Total yards for both teams were very close, within 4 yards at the end of the game, and Montevideo

had 3 more first downs in the game.  The difference in the game was Dassel Cokato got a couple of

big passing plays that kept their drives alive late in the game. 

Tyler Grey was 16 of 38 passing for 154 yards and also ran for a 4 yard touchdown for Montevideo. 

Tramel Barnes had 5 catches for 65 yards, Todd Bergeson had 8 catches for 64 yards, Tyler Ray had

4 catches for 39 yards.  Brock Ackerman led Monte in rushing with 18 carries for 60 yards, Tyler Blomme

had 6 carries for 28 yards, Todd Bergeson ran for 19 yards, and Shane Black had 2 carries for 6 yards. 

Tramel Barnes had an interception.  Dayne Johnson and Tyler Johnson each had a quarterback sack.

Montevideo scored on their opening drive in the game including a 28 yard pass from Tyler Grey to Todd

Bergeson and a 15 yard Bergeson run capped by Grey's 4 yard touchdown run.  Tyler Blomme was in on

15 tackles.  Montevideo ends their season with a very impressive 8 and 2 record and a WCC South Title.

The Montevideo Volleyball Team held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards for

All State Academic were Calie Roggatz, Laura Moseng, Amanda Boike, and Taylor Skoglund.  All conference

players were Taylor Skoglund, Calie Roggatz, Karie Blommel, and Ashley Roder.  All Conference Honorable

Mention goes to Brooke Tastad.  Taylor Skoglund was named the Conference Best Offensive Player.  The

Thunder Hawk Team Awards were given to Taylor Skoglund as the Best Offensive Player, Ashley Roder as

the Best Defensive Player, Brooke Tastad is Most Improved, Karie Blommel had the Best Serve %, Kelsie

Diggins won the Miss Hustle Award, Amanda Boike won the Team Spirit Award, Ashley Roder was the Best

Passer, and Karie Blommel was the Team MVP.    

The Montevideo Volleyball Team ended their season with a loss to YME in the Sub-Section Championship

match by a score of 3 to 2.  Monte won the first game 26 to 24, YME won the next two games 25 to 22 and

25 to 21, Monte won game four 25 to 18, YME won a back and fourth game five 15 to 13.  Monte was led in

kills by Brooke Tastad with 18, Karie Blommel had 11 kills, and 31 digs.  Calie Roggatz had 3 ace serves.

Becca Schwendemann and Taylor Skoglund had 3 ace blocks each.  Calie Roggatz had 25 digs, Taylor

Skoglund had 24, Ashley Roder had 20.  Whitney Johnson led Monte in Assists with 18.  In the three matches

with YME this season the two teams played 12 games.  In those games YME scored 261 points and Monte

scored 258 points.  The two teams were evenly matched.  Monte ends the season with a 23-2-1 record and a

WCC South Title.

The Montevideo Girls Swim Team held their end of the season awards banquet and winning awards were

Molly Grussing for Rookie of the Year, Jordan Shimell was Most Improved, Liz Devorak is Most Dedicated,

and Katie Burns won the Coaches Award.  Next years Captains are Beth Crosby, Kortney Rhode, and

Melissa Varpness.  Senior Diver Lyndsae Norman received All Conference honors for the season. 

The Girls Swim Team ended their season with a great performance in the Section 3A Finals.

Monte's 200 free relay finished 5th with Grussing, Burns, Devorak, and Varpness.  Monte's 200 medley relay

dropped nearly 2 seconds from the prelims and finished 7th with Clark, Devorak, Burns, and Varpness.

Monte's 400 free relay also had a good time drop of nearly 4 and 1/2 seconds from the Prelims and finished

10th with Rhode, Johnson, Norman, and Grussing.  Liz Devorak was 10th in the 100 breaststroke.  Melissa

Varpness was 10th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 free.  Katie Burns finished 12th in the 100 butterfly.

Lyndsae Norman finished 24th in diving.  The Girls Swim Team finished 10th as a team at the section Meet.

The Montevideo Boys Cross Country Team had Owen Hein and Darren Reuss competing at the

State Cross Country Meet at St. Olaf College.  Darren Reuss finished 97th, and Owen Hein was 120th. 

The Monte Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams competed at the Section meet in Adrian.  The Monte Boys

sent 2 runners to State.  Owen Hein was 9th, and Darren Reuss was 10th.  Other Monte finishers were

Jesse Mijares in 13th, Gentry Schweiger was 34th, Eldon Evans was 35th, Patrick Olson was 37th, and Alex

Geerdes was 51st.  The boys finished 3rd as a team just missing a trip to state as a team.  The top 2 teams

qualify for the State Meet.

The Monte Girls were led by Kate Eggers in 11th just missing a trip to the state meet.  To qualify for State

a runner must finish in the top 10.  Other Monte finishers were Beth Ostlie in 24th, Mekena Hofer in 30th,

Hannah Wenaas in 31st, Eleni Binsfeld in 33rd, Hannah Ehling in 40th, and Kristen Croymans in 42nd.

The girls finished 4th as a team.

Kate Eggers was awarded Individual Academic All-State honors.  To qualify for this award the student athlete

needs to be a junior or senior, place in the top 15 at sections, and have a GPA of 3.75 or greater.

Junior Kate Eggers placed 11th at the Section 3A Meet and has a GPA of 3.9.

The Monte girls had 3 All Conference runners, Kate Eggers was 6th individually, Hannah Wenaas was 7th,

and Makena Hofer was 12th at the Conference meet.  The boys had 3 All Conference finishers as well. 

Darren Reuss was 2nd individually, Owen Hein was 4th, and Jesse Mijares was 5th at the Conference Meet.

were Jenny Fitcher as the Teamer Award winner, Kim Danielson won the Coaches Award, Emily Blauert was

a Captain next year, Emily Hein will be a Captain next year as well, Avery Carlbom was WCC South

Honorable Mention, Lindsey Brace was Most Dedicated, Best Strokes, Team MVP, and WCC South

all Conference.  

The Montevideo Girls Tennis Team ended their season competing in the Section 3A Individual

Tournament at Redwood Falls.  Amanda Lipinski went 1 and 1 and was eliminated from the tournament.

Also in singles, Avery Carlbom went 0 and 1 and was eliminated.  In Doubles for Montevideo Kim Danielson

and Shelby Monahan went 0 and 1 and were eliminated.  Lindsey Brace and Jenny Fitcher competed as

the Thunder Hawks other doubles team and went 1 and 1 and were eliminated from the tournament.

The Monte Tennis Team ends their season with a 6 and 16 record.
